Faraquet, reunion?

My friend Christian turned me on to a band called Faraquet a few years back. Looks like they might be reuniting. This is the last y'll hear from me for a few more weeks. then, goodness.

The Care and Feeding of a Musical Margin

Should experimental/new music be state subsidized? Here's what Marc Ribot, one of the best Downtown NYC experimental jazz guitarists, has to say about the matter.

Its critique of the punk "Do It Yourself" ethos is especially provocative.

Purest Purists -- 07/14/07

Folks, I'll be making a rare live appearance Saturday July 14th with Purest Purists (dear friends Nelly Anderson + Evan Moritz). The set promises to be swinging, summery, and poppy so come out and do the twist. Josh Van Horne will be opening for us with Game Boy and esoteric German electronics. Details:

Purest Purists w/Josh Van Horne

3rd Floor Masonic Building, 13 W. Beverley St., Staunton, VA

Show starts at 10 PM.

Plok at DUST on Saturday

Received notice about a show at DUST tomorrow evening in Cville. A Danish band by the name of Plok will be playing and, by the sound of it, the show should be a prickly bunch of math-y rock songs. Line up and get bruised. Peep their electronic press kit (complete w/bio, promo mp3s, and photos) here: http://www.kickstartus.com/kickstartwebsite/Vikingconquest.html

Bandazian -- 07/06/07 at Starr Hill

Bandazian will be playing this Friday night at Starr Hill's downstairs lounge. They'll be opening for the Kings of Belmont. Haven't heard the Kings, but Bandazian should deliver tunefulness and bluster in equal measure. Oh yeah, the show's FREE -- yeaya!

Spoonsomnia

Instead of falling asleep, I'm tossing and turning and compulsively listening to Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. Absolutely Spoon's high point, from the Lee Bontecou album cover to the Mikey Dread sample at the beginning of "Finer Feelings". Stunned.

FREEDOM!!!!!

Done with board exams. Expect some nice things here soon.

Sol LeWitt, RIP

Just found out today that Sol LeWitt, one of the major minimalist/conceptualist visual artists, has passed away. I've had some great experiences with his art at the Hirshhorn and the Art Gallery of Ontario. Check him out and enjoy.

*Giggle*

"Actually, most of the crowd had a chance to get close to the trio after one man rushed the stage, turning it into a frenetic mass."

I wonder who rushed the stage?

Migrating Taste

Just noticed that Mr. Dave Segal has put together a very tasty mp3 blog: Migrating Taste.

So far there are some great tracks ranging from new Timbaland to some dubstep-cum-reggae by Skream. Enjoy!
